SOUNDING ROOTS, 2018, Three sculptures, Chinese local clay unfired, 60x60x50 cm each.

The three sculptures entitled 'Sounding Roots' are made with a particular Chinese unfired clay that is typical of the Pingyao area. The organic and three-dimensional shapes are hypothetical mental architectures that embody an archaic and futuristic mix. These two 'conflictive' elements refer to the specific dilemma of China and in particular of Pingyao, that probably more than any other Chinese city is an example of integration between two different worlds: the ancient and splendid Chinese urban heritage and the modern, economic and technological Chinese innovations that astonish the world.

These sculptures were made during an artist-in-residency as part of the International Sculpture Project Pingyao 2018, China.
