WHEN THE WHISTLE GLARES, 2019 HD video Installation 50'.

When the Whistle Glares is a participatory documentary film, which takes place in the Capriles clinic, a psychiatric institution in Willemstad, Curaçao. The film's main characters are the artists, patients from the clinic and students from the Instituto Buena Bista art school, located on the clinic’s site. Over four months (January-April 2016) we lived on the clinic site where, together with patients and students, we investigated how we could imagine the clinic as a 'normal' village including encounters and activities that refer to everyday life outside a hospital.

The project was developed during an artist-in-residency at the Instituto Buena Bista, Curacao and supported by the Mondriaan Fund. It is the last part of a video trilogy about the heritage of the anti-psychiatry movement in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
