SAND CASTLE TECHNIQUE, 2018 HD video 15'.

The lead characters of this video are a series of whistling sculptures made with the local clay of Pingyao, China, which were realised by a group of young students from the Pingyao Modern Engineering Technical School. The sculptures are protagonists of an imaginative story written by the students, and vary from objects, to persons to animals to theatrical settings. In the video the students comment on their metaphorical tales and give voice to their sculptures by playing them. The sculptures seem like sand castles; with one blow their imagination is materialised, with one blow it could fall apart. The poetic video gives an insight into the inner world, preoccupations, fantasies and hopes for the future of these young students.

This video was made during an artist-in-residency as part of the International Sculpture Project Pingyao 2018, China.
