In the Netherlands there are over seven thousand desecrated churches, many of these are built in the post-war period, particularly between the 1950s and 1960s. With the cultural changes of 1968 and the decline in religious practice some of these churches have become gyms, cultural centres, malls or even mosques, changing the original religious connotation. However, most of these churches have become relics, testimonies in concrete of a changing society.
